My father has done master health checkup for the first time in his life. His age is 58. In abdomen ultrasound scan, impression has come as "grade 1 fatty liver" he eats non-veg often and consumes alcohol daily. I have told him to stop alcohol after that. But he is not stopping. Will this become a major problem.

Fatty liver grade 1 is a relatively common finding these days. He should ideally not have problems with moderate quantities of alcohol (cap it to 60ml /day). However if he wishes to quit it he may do so gradually. Alcohol being an addiction if quitted suddenly in regular drinkers may produce withdrawal symptoms. For his fatty liver you may take homoeopathic treatment and he should be better. You may reach me if you have any further questions. Take care

Yes, unless it is controlled it will progress to grade 2 and so on. However, it will not be easy to make such lifestyle choices. It will take time. Have patience.

Hi lybrate-user. Its been a common problem to see fatty liver grade 1 among both males and females after their 40's.during this stage they may experience only some slight gastric irritations, as of now it won't cause much problems. But it's better to limit nonveg and alcohol, so that the furthur fatty changes to liver can be stopped.
