Athletes subject their musculoskeletal system to excessive physical demand in order to perform at competitive level. Hence they are more likely to develop bone/joint and muscle overuse issues and injuries with their sequelae. Having said that this can be prevented with appropriate conditioning and training. Arthritis can be of many types and yes athletes are more likely to get secondary arthritis post injury or due to overuse.
