The commonest cause in children is congenital weakness of the muscle lifting the lid. In case it is cosmetically unacceptable and covering significant part of eye, surgery is advised. There is no medical treatment for it. Recent onset ptosis is serious and warrants a complete neuroophthalmic work up.
