Saiveenaji, treatment of hypothyroidism is for life time. There is no option. Weight rduction is possible if hypothyroidism is well controlled with tsh levels between 3 to 4 milli units/ml. Your diet should be planned based on ideal body weight (height in cms - 100 = 70 kgs). Plus daily exercise of over 1 hour like brisk walking, jogging, running etc. Should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume whole gain flour rotis and chapatis. No refined foods. Plus in hypothyroidism one has to avoid soy beans and soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, peanuts, mustard and coffee. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits.
