Hi, I am sorry to hear about your problem. Usually ureteric stones (stones in tube connecting kidney with bladder) are dangerous to kidneys, since they block the urine drainage from kidney and cause swelling of kidney (hydronephrosis). Most of the ureteric stones less than 7 mm will pass easily with medicines. Since your stone size is 9.2 mm, it is a little difficult to manage with medicines. However, medicines can be tried for a few weeks if the kidney function is good and swelling is not much. Only your treating urologist can decide on that. If it is causing damage to your kidney, then it needs to be removed using ureteroscopy (urs). Any ureteric stone if left untreated for more than 4 weeks will cause permanent damage to the kidney. Moreover, it can also damage the ureter (leading to ureteric stricture) at the place where it gets blocked. Usually small kidney stones less than 5 mm can be treated medically. Larger stones can get dissolved depending on their composition. Uric acid stones are easy to treat medically. After the treatment of ureteric stone, you can get treated for kidney stones using medicines. If they are not getting dissolved in 3 months, you can undergo flexible ureteroscopy with laser for complete stone removal. Wish you a good health,
