I had hair fall 10 days ago. So I checked up thyroid and report shows t3 173.11 (ref: 80-200), t4 89.52 (66-181) and tsh 5.69 (ref: 0.45-4.5). I visited a doctor and he has given thyrox 75. Is this dose correct? And next what should I do?

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. The tsh value mentioned (5.69 mu/l) is not even at 6 mu/l. At best it can qualify as subclinical hypothyroidism, even that is considered when tsh is 6 to 9.9 mu/l. At these levels no treatment is advocated. The symptoms associated with hypothyroidism include weight gain, lethargy, tiredness, slow heart rate, intolerance to cold, dry skin, dry hair and hair fall. Usually treatment is started when tsh goes above 10 mu/l and there are severe symptoms too. For your problems of hair fall please do consult a skin specialist, who should be able to guide better. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
