I am a depression and anxiety patient. I take medicines paxidep cr 12.5 mg and ventab dxt 25 mg but due to excessive side effects I have to leave them midway then start again. I experienced constipation when I last had both the tablets so I had to leave them for 2 days and now when I had ventab at night it had 0 effect. Plus I have realized that these medicines have effect for only few hrs after that again the situation becomes same like if you have medicine at night the effect will not last till next dosage it will last only 2-3 hrs.

Contrary to how you feel. The medications given for anxiety take around 2-4 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks to get their actions. The immediate grogginess or side effects you feel would ease out by 2-4 weeks again. So it would be wise to start a mono-therapy (single medication) after discussing the symptoms, your tolerability with a psychiatrist. Take them for 1 month and re evaluate. Around one third would require a course of 3-6 months, remaining one third might have relapse of anxiety after few months or years, remaining one third have to take it long term continuously even life time. Dear Amrita, Don't connect the immediate symptoms and the medicines. Except rare allergic symptoms, no effect or side effect comes immediately. Sometimes gastroenteric symptoms come up in vulnerable persons. Constipation could be from many causes. The cr and dxt preparations are made to last for longer hours. The beneficial effects take 2-3 weeks.
