Sir, my mother is 52 years old. She is a diabetic and b. P patient. She is affected with cataract. When we approached the eye specialist, he told us that it is impossible to undergo cataract operation as her health condition is not meting the requirements of the operation. So, is there any safe mode of operation available in india for this type of patients. So, I request you to properly guide me in this situation with good advice for my mother cataract operation asap. These patients are somewhat high risk patients (especially bp patients) as they can have both intraoperative and post-operative complications. Still if they have good control of diabetes and bp they can go for operation. Your mother also has some heart block, so the medication for this (if started already) should be continued and will need careful intra-operative monitoring, which can be best given in multispeciallity hospital only(having icu staff, medicinal, anesthetic support). But if she is having good control, and stable then one can go for exclusive eye hospitals also (as they are little cost effective). As such cataract operation takes only 15minutes to complete and is till date least invasive procedure surgery. But the chronic conditions might affect the post-operative visual outcome. The chance of these complications pretty less nowadays with precautions, latest techniques and aggressive monitoring. At the end, only treatment for cataract is surgery; which needs to be done, sooner or later. So I hope this will help you out.
