She has severe deficiency. Vitamin d levels depends upon exposure to sunlight (particularly ultraviolet b). So, supplements should be taken accounting for the exposure to sunshine. No thumb rules for that. But, generally it is prescribed for 12 weeks at 60000 units and then followed by once monthly for a year for severe deficiency. A daily recommend dose of 800iu or 20mcg is for adults. Just keep 2 things in mind, first one should be taking enough calcium on a daily basis, so if you are not taking dairy products or a vegan, then you must take calcium supplements as well. Second, beware vitamin d is toxic at over doses, don't overdo it.
