Please . Reply to my question, as am not getting the answer in detail i am regular blood donor, twice or thrice in a year. My Age is 38 yrs, & my Blood group is AB+. I want to ask all respected doctors regarding blood donation. Due to blood donation it will create any harm to my body in future or it will create any disease or major health issues in future. Also I heard from one of the blood testing laboratory person that blood donation causes reduction in bone marrow, is it true? Please . Advice should I continue Blood donation regularly?

Blood donation is an altruistic activity you are benefiting many humans blood donation should be spaced 3 months apart as it takes 1 1/2 months to regrow cells normally it does not harm rather benefits donor as new cells like rbc has mean lifespan of 120 days older cells are automatically destroyed in body and hb is degraded to bilirubin which then is cleared by liver and then excreted in stools so better to donate than destroy bone marrow is not affected at all as it manufacturers cells irrespective you donate or not. Misconceptions are there due to lack of knowledge so keep donating till 60 years of age as guidelines do not permit after that despite bone marrow wirks fine even after 70 years.
