Hi. Lybrate-user you mean you had an acl tear in your left knee. Which is confirmed by your mri. If there is a tear and if you have instability while walking. We need to reconstruct it. It's not an emergency. We have to wait for for 4 to 6 wk for the swelling to come down.

Progressive physical therapy after acl surgery helps to strengthen the muscles around your knee and improve flexibility. A physiotherapist will teach you how to do exercises that you will perform either with continued supervision or at home. Within the first few weeks after surgery, you should strive to regain knee range of motion equal to that of your opposite knee. You'll also be given crutches to help you move around. You may need to use them for about two weeks, but you should only put as much weight on your injured leg as you feel comfortable with. After two to three weeks, you should be able to walk without crutches. Six weeks to six months after your knee operation, you should gradually be able to return to your normal level of activity. After six months, you may be able to return to playing sport.
