I am asking this question on behalf of my wife. We got married about a month ago. Recently, we flew to couple of place in India and then to US on a long flight. She got her periods on flight like 10 days earlier. Recently, 3 days after end of the period, she noticed white discharge after intercourse. What do these indicate?

Hi. As your wife is experiencing hormonal changes after marriage, so menses getting slightly irregular is quite normal. In fact white discharge seen post-coitus is also normal, but if the discharge is continuous, copious, smelly, yellowish in colour, or the menses are getting delayed for long or heavy menstrual flow, then take an appointment with a gynaecologist.

Some women produce a white vaginal discharge instead of experiencing a normal period. More often than not, vaginal discharge is not a major health concern. Just as our saliva protects our mouth from drying out, vaginal discharge is constantly produced to protect the very delicate vaginal tissue.

Dear, disturbances in the menstrual cycle post marriage are commonly seen due to emotional stress or taking medications to delay or prepone menses due to religious reasons in india. So do not bother. White discharge (secretion) post intercourse is a normal. It should not be confused with white discharge which is seen in infections. Ask her to observe if she is having white discharge regularly and if there is any pain, fever or related symptoms. Do not worry and both of you relax. God bless!
