Please take her to a local dentist. Pain in gums or periodontal problems are generally not very painful. She might be having a carious tooth which is causing her pain. Proper oral and radiographic findings will get a exact diagnosis and hence give her relief. A healthy diet is not detrimental to healthy oral cavity. Brushing twice a day, avoiding sweet foods and soft drinks are few practices that helps in lower caries formation in the long run.
