Hi doctor, I recently injured my knee while doing lunges without support which has resulted in subluxation of the patella, medial retinaculum tear, along with large joint effusion. Is physical therapy better or surgery? Also how long will I take to recover? Its already 2 weeks and I am under going physical therapy, plaster cast was given and now removed out. Currently using knee braces to walk, there's swelling in my knee an I cant fold it completely. Please suggest.

You have to undergo extensive physio to regain movement in the knee. Brace will help protect the patella from a repeat dislocation. You have to patiently work with physiotherapist to improve movement in the knee joint. If it does dislocate again, you must consider surgery which will require reconstruction.
