Hello doctor, I have some strange feeling of guilty,I keep thinking that I made a mistake which cannot be corrected , so this feeling is killing me inside, I keep thinking about this all the time. Can you suggest me what I should do to get rid of this and lead a normal life?

You need to accept what you have done. Everyone makes mistake at one point or the other.You accept and stop ruminating the past. Instead try meditation/CBT/ or you may consult for medication

If there has been just cause for feeling guilty, then you need to rectify that wrong to come out of the feeling. If, however, you claim that you are imagining the guilt, then that is your imagination running wild. In this case, you have to do a reality check, and look back to identify any occasion when you could have wronged someone and see if that is the guilt plaguing you. This could gradually lead to feeling angry with yourself and that turning into depression. There are some exercises that will help to look at things from a logical stand point which will relieve you of any shame, which does not really exist. If you are stressed too, your mind can fantasize all kinds of unreal things to trouble you. Slowly, this can lead to false instances which you will believe to be true as a fact and shift into guilt about the same. This imagination has to be curbed. You can meet with a counselor to help you do reality checks every time you think of something that generates guilt. You must also know that anything wrong that you do can be rectified to a large extent. That assurance you will get from your counselor too.
