lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. In uncontrolled hypothyroidism (high tsh levels), there is bound to be weight gain. That can be prevented only by strictly controlling tsh level by taking adequate dosage of levothyroxine every day as advised by your physician. Ideally tsh should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l, at which all the symptoms are in check. To control and reduce weight one has to take a properly planned restricted diet and do regular exercise for over 1 hour a day. As regards dark pigmentation please consult a dermatologist and also check your blood glucose as this could be an indicator of insulin resistance development. Thanks.

Hello, darkness in the skin of the neck can happen if you are overweight or obese and have a family history of diabetes. It will not respond to depigmenting creams. You need to follow a healthy diet and exercise to get your weight in control, only then it may respond. Please do consult a doctor just to rule out any infection or other causes of dark patches. All the best.
