Firstly if depressed do not drink alcohol secondly alcohol increases metabolism of sertraline so its effectiveness is diminished thirdly you need to discuss therapy related things first with your treating psychiatrist.

Dear Srikanth, It is better that you don't consume alcohol. Probably you thought or your friends would have told you, that alcohol will get you out of depression. Now that you are on serta, an antidepressant, you don't need alcohol anymore. Every medicine including serta will have long term effect. But it will NOT be like alcohol where you need more and more dose and your thinking may be how to get alcohol now. At your age, serta may not be given for more than 6 months. So no long term effect.
