My father is 52 years old. Last month his lipid profile test for blood indicated that he has ldl- 151, hdl-35 and triglycerides- 418. He has been taking rosuvas 10 (rosuvastatin) and lipicard 200 (fenofibrate). Mu question is how long he has to take these medicines and if cholesterol levels become normal after that, can he quit these medicines or any of these two medicines. He is 55 years old by the way.

Consutl a dietician for fat free high carbohydrates high protein high fibre diet. He need to do brisk walk to burn calories. Avoid oils and fats in diet. Ask him to take oats in meals more often. Only medicine will not reduce his lipids.

He has to take these medications on a long term basis dose might be decreased after normalisation of lipid profile but not to be abruptly stopped.
