No sir you have to wear braces at least for one year depending upon condition of your teeth. After completion of your treatment you can shift to retainers.

Dear, wearing braces or not will be decided by your treating dentist. But yes the usual procedure involves wearing of braces For teeth correction and later on wearing retainer For extended period....
