As you have already mentioned that you both are like best friends then may be he is asking your experience like a friend. But you should communicate him your doubts. Whatever was the reason but that was a cheating in your relationship, you should understand that he may have a developed a fear of losing you and wants to be with you, but your actions have created a doubt in his mind that you may again repeat it. My suggestion is you should have an open talk about it or else you can consult a psychologist.
