I am suffering from thyroid which was detected 7 months back. My tsh and thyronorm dosage is as follows :- month tsh dose of thyronorm (mg) ____________________________________________ aug 456 200 sept 1 12.5 nov 287 50 dec 123 50 & 25 (alternate days) jan 140 50 feb 60 50 (mon to fri) 25 (sat sun) mar. 54 100 in opinion of my allopathic doctor. If thyroid is because of antibodies present in blood medicines (thyronorm) has to be taken for life time. While my homeopathic doctor says its curable but takes 1 to 2 years. In my thyroid antibody test (tpo) antibodies were detected at 13. While normal range is 5.so antibodies are present. I want to know whats the truth. Is thyroid curable? Can the antibodies be brought to normal?

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. From the details given I only understand that you have hypothyroidism and are on levothyroxine tablets. It is better if you just write what is the tsh level now or very recent. Because if one is on adequate dosage of levothyroxine, then tsh is maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l from your write up I am not able to understand what is the tsh level. When anti tpo antibodies are high it is called as an autoimmune disease leading again to hypothyoidism. But treatment for that condition (hashimoto's thyroiditis, ht) is same as for hypothyroidism. Since there is a lack of the hormone thyroxine (t4), the person has to take that hormone for lifetime. Because it is an essential hormone for day to day metabolic activities. What the homeopath says has no medical basis. Hypothyroidism can not be cured. Rest is left to you what treatment you want to take. Thanks.

Most probably you have to take medicine indefinitely.Dose to be adjusted by monitoring TSH level. There is no medicine to bring back antibodies to normal.
