DENTAL ADVISE NEEDED: My teeth are wearing out due to age,I am 69 years old,one teeth had worn out completly and after a Root canal treatment it was Capped.I am looking out for my other teeth ( molars ) which are wearing out.What preventive methods are there to save the other teeth?I do not eat Gutka or any form of Tobacco.I do not have any Cavities or any other defect in my teeth.

Dear Sir, Attrition(wearing of teeth) is a common problem of Geriatric patients.If pain or sensitivity presents in the other teeth.It may require capping alone or RCT with Capping. As a precautionary measure, 1) Kindly avoid eating hard foods & bubble gum chewing(if any).Which will pave way for more wearing of teeth. 2) Brush using a tooth paste for sensitivity problem like Colgate Pro-Relief 3) Avoid hard brushes.Use a soft or medium one 4) Use a proper brushing technique.Brush not more than 2-3 mins. 5) Have a regular dental check up every 6 months once. Sir considering your age, there are two options.If due to wearing of your teeth you experience 1) mild- moderate or bearable sensitivity. I suggest we can restore your teeth with some sort of restoration either a composite or maybe a crown without Root canal treatment or 2) if the tooth is very sensitive or painful - unbearable then I suggest endodontoc or root canal treatment and crown.Another factor we would have to assess is your periodontal status which ideally refers to your bone support .If according to your statement if your bone and gum support is good then the above treatment is possible.But on the other hand if your bony support or strength is less.To the extent that your tooth or teeth are mobile then better to leave them alone/ or if painful extract them .Some more facts that I need knowledge of is if you are suffering from other ailments or systemic diseases.

Hello The wearing of teeth on occlusal (eating) suface is a natural phenomenon. Regarding that you should not worry, unless there is pain or sensitivity starts. Bot if your teetth are wearing on the suface that you can see (Facial or Buccal) in the mirror after joining the front (Anterior) teeth the, you should seek a dentist.
