I got c section 8 days before. On the surgery day my baby was in critical condition and was shifted to childrens hosptl. There he was given SURVANTA inj. And after the treatment, they discharged my baby after 8 days. Within that period I was very much scared. Now I want to know that my baby is alright now. But his lips become purple in color sometimes. What may be the reason for it. I am very much tensed bcz of my son. Please suggest me why that SURVANTA inj is. Given to my child and after that now my baby will b Ok. Na or can something will happen. What are the preventive measures shud I take to my child Please reply soon. I will be very much thankful to you.

If Inj. Survanta was given, it means your baby was born prematurely. Premature babies can not produce a special substance called as 'Surfactant' in their lungs which is necessary for oxygen from air to reach blood. You can call it as life saving injection for premature. It does not cause side effects beyond 48 hours of administration hence I feel you should forget about it and relax yourself. Lips becoming bluish or blackish in colour when baby cries is not considered normal. There are various reasons. If I type few of them over here then your anxiety will increase and that will result in decreased breast milk output. Meet your paediatrician as soon as possible. Stay calm and relaxed. Have proper sleep and do not indulge in house work for at least 3 months. Drink lots of fluids and milk. Your premature baby has gone home within 8 days of NICU stay is really a big achievement. You should be thankful to the God, treating doctors and nature. My opinion is to consult your Neonatologist earlier regarding the above issue.
