What are the initial symptoms of depression?
Ask Free Question
Hi, the most common symptoms of depression are feeling worthless, feeling hopeless, anger, irritability, loss of interest in activities you enjoyed previously, difficulty in doing everyday activities, an increase or decrease in appetite/sleep/sex, a significant decrease in energy levels, trouble in concentrating and remembering things. Other physical symptoms can be general aches and pains in the body, headaches, indigestion, etc. Depression is a serious condition that needs focused treatment just like diabetes or heart condition. Low mood can get better by thinking positive thoughts, depression does not. Depression needs a treatment that focuses on its root cause - negative thought and belief system. Unless this faulty system is changed, any medicine will only be helping relieving symptoms of depression, but not depression itself. Having said that, sometimes medicines along with psychotherapy can work wonders for an individual. If you or a close one is suspecting depression, please don't suffer in silence. Seek help. All the best!
