Hi. Whenever we are overly stressed or tense, the fight or flight mechanism in our body (also called the sympathetic nervous system) gets activated. Our brain senses that there is some perceived danger in our environment and we need to either fight it or run from it. It sends messages to different parts of our body to get ready for action so our heart starts beating faster to pump more blood, the breathing rate goes up, blood pressure increases and a lot of other changes happen to help us gear up for action. However, when there is no real danger in our environment, we don't really need to take any action and we become aware of all these sensations. The best way to deal with this is to address the reasons for your stress and tension. Talk to your friends and family, take help and support from them if possible. Consult a psychologist if required. You can also practice deep breathing, mindfulness or calming self talk such as telling yourself that whatever the situation, you'll be able to handle it; things are tough but gradually they'll come under control etc. Also try to engage in some activity that relaxes you. Hope this helps. Take care.
