Dear Lybrateuser, - You can try some lifestyle measures to lower your BP:- have a salt restricted diet, avoid fried, processed & junk foods, also pickles, papads & namkeens, restrict intake of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day if you have more, avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - have more of fibre containing foods such as fruits, vegetables including green leafy & seasonal ones, whole grains like whole wheat, brown rice, oats, quinoa instead of refined ones, legumes, sprouts, a handful of unsalted nuts, have low fat milk & dairy products - have heart healthy fats as in fish like tuna, salmon, mackeral, olive & canola oil for cooking, nuts, avocados & seeds such as flax, chia & sesame - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling for 20-30 min daily - also do yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 10-15 min in the morning to relax your mind & body - sleep well for at least 7-8 hrs at night, keep your sleep and wake up time fixed - de-stress by listening to light music or reading or following a hobby - reduce weight by diet and exercise if you are overweight - monitor BP regularly.
