My mother gets auditory hallucinations in the night. She complains of listening to voices & suspects that my neighbors are talking to my father on phone (which is not true as only she hears those voices & no one else do no). She is kind of insecure & when I have consulted doctors, they said she is suffering with Paranoia & need to be medically treated. But she never accepts that they are not real but auditory hallucinations. When I took her to the doctor, he explained her situation with an example but even then she is not ready to accept her medical condition & she is not taking medicines. We tried convincing in many ways, but no use. This issue is becoming serious & we have no idea, how deal with this. Kindly suggest something.

You can ask the doctor to prescribe a medicine which can be surreptitiously slipped into her diet or drink and this can make her amenable to therapy or medication over a period of time. Since she is willing to meet the doctor you can definitely take her to a counselor who will use talk therapy to deal with the issues without her knowing that there is a label to her condition. This access to therapy is a very important tool to explore but you should warn the counselor that she is already denying that there is a problem. A smart therapist will work with her belief and through alignment with a fallacy, it is possible to get her around gradually to accept that her perceptions are just hallucinations. This can be done.
