I met an bike accident some days before. When I visit to an orthopedics he suggest me to do x-ray. After x-ray doctor found that minor injury is there in the knee so he suggested me for MRI. Today I got the MRI report and there it mentioned:- 1-Marrow edema with fracture is noted in lower end of femur and upper end of tibia. 2-Partial tear of anterior cruciate ligament. 3-Moderate joint effusion Kindly suggest me whether it is normal or I should go for surgery.

As per your write up its partial injury, can wait for exercises to strengthen you muscles first, then go re-evaluation However exact suggestion can only be discussed once seen the actual Mr. report and Xray Take care.

Hello Dr. Shyam Bhairi here. It pretty unfortunate that you met with an accident, regarding your MRI report I will be in a better possible to answer if I have a look at the MRI films, but with the present info I can tell you the following facts 1) Marrow oedema is usually seen in case of moderate to severe injuries usually they will reduce with proper rest and medication 2) Fracture of of femur and tibia of undisplaced then no need for surgical intervention 3) ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear generally won't heal. It is very important ligament for knee joint stability, which is of utmost importance in sports person. In a normal person, if there is instability (sense of giving away of knee, not stable while getting down the stairs) then it needs to be reconstructed by arthroscopic surgery. Generally that decision is not made immediately. You can wait for 2-3 weeks if you have symptoms of instability then you have to under go arthroscopic reconstruction.
