Subdural hematoma manifests itself in many ways and there is no one treatment for it. Many factors determine whether the patient needs surgery or not. Some of them are the patient's level of consciousness, and the size of the hematoma. If the doctor and the patient choose to go ahead with surgery, it may involve drilling holes in the skull to drain the hematoma or doing a small craniotomy (opening a small portion of skull) to drain the hematoma.

thin subdural hematoma does not require operation. Only symptomatic treatment. But thick and large subdural hematoma needs surgery. That is the only treatment.
