Hi .My baby is 5 weeks old and is hardly gaining weight of about 10-15gms per day ,some days her weight does not increase by a single gram. She passes stools and urine every 3-4 hours. I am worried if my breasmilk is low hence she is not gaining much weight. Please advise what needs to be done.

Hi, The average breastfed baby doubles birth weight by 5-6 months. By one year, the typical breastfed baby will weigh about 2 1/2 ? 3 times birth weight. A healthy newborn is expected to lose 7% to 10% of the birth weight, but should regain that weight within the first 2 weeks or so after birth. As long as your baby is breastfeeding well and his health care exams are on target, a slower weight gain may not be an issue.
