My mother is 74 years old. She has low sodium problem. She could not digest food properly at it causes loose motion. Recently, she was admitted hospital with low sodium (109). Now she is in a stable condition. In this regard, I need your help what type of food habits and medicine she should have to prevent low sodium.

Hello As we all know the main source of sodium around us is table salt. One must remember, it should not be taken in excess to just prevent low sodium. Many food items also contains sodium that should be added in the food for low sodium patients. You must also take care that excess salt may raise blood pressure and cause fluid retention in body. To prevent low sodium, she must take salted nuts, breads, buttermilk, olives, mustard in her diet. She also need to cut down on her water intake if she takes lots of water. Oldage is commonly affected by this problem due to medications or the chronic diseases they have. Tc.
