usually t1 diabetes is not exactly hereditary, meaning if father has t1 dm all children will get it. But the possibility is said to be 1 in 17. (ada data). Apart from genes environment and viral involvement also is said to be the cause. So the chances are very less of the child developing t1 diabetes.
