Hello- If you or your partner have sex partners who overlap in time, your risk for getting or transmitting HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) increases. This is because the more sexual partners you have in your lifetime, the more likely you are to have a sex partner who has HIV and whose viral load isn't suppressed or who has another STD.
