I have hypothyroid and the doc has prescribed 50 mcg tablet. I also have vit D and B12 deficiency quite often. What should be my diet and exercise routine to get rid of thyroid as soon as possible? I am a busy mother of 2 young kids. I have severe fatigue and weakness, dry skin and hair, irregular periods, muscle ache, etc, all effects of hypothyroid that are quite troublesome in my day to day chores.

Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given. Please let me know current or latest TSH level, because the symptoms described are suggestive of uncontrolled hypothyroidism. For Vitamin D and B12 supplements can be taken on and off. Hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disease, so only treatment is supplement the required quantity of that hormone every day. There is no cure. Treatment is for lifetime. There is no special diet. Only thing is to avoid soy beans and soy containing products. Plus consume good deal of green leafy vegetables and fruits. Use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Avoid bakery items, pastries, foods made from maida. Exercise regularly, best is to walk for 45 minutes a day. Thanks.
