anemia vitamin d deficiency vitamin b12 deficiency stress in turn leading to mealanocytes destruction.... leading to lower production of keratin.....these are some of the factors..... genetic factors.... The premature graying problem is largely genetic. Hair follicles contain pigment cells that produce melanin, which gives your tresses their color. When your body stops generating melanin, hair presents itself as gray, white, or silver. In that study, the researchers found that hormones produced in response to stress can deplete the melanocyte stem cells that determine hair color. They found that stress causes the stem cells to leave our hair follicles, leaving hair gray or white. It could be related to vitamin D because in certain vitamin D resistant syndromes hair growth stops or it is thin and often gray. Graying hair in young women is often associated with osteopenia (bone thinning) and/or thyroid problems. Vitamin B-12 deficiency, anemia or viruses can cause gray hair to appear as well.
