I am 19 years old. Last june i.e. 2017, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at apollo hospital, chennai. I was prescribed to take Thyronorm 50 mg daily in the morning before having anything. From then my TSH is fluctuating. I just wanted to ask, can it be cured permanently? And if yes then how?

Hello, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disease. This hormone is needed for a majority of metabolic activities in the body. Therefore, it has to be supplemented from outside. There is no other option. The treatment is for lifetime. If a person takes adequate dosage, he or she remains absolutely fine. So you will have to continue the treatment. Plus it is necessary to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L for remaining free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.
