How long does it take for Chronic Antral Gastritis to heal? Its been 2 months since my diagnosis by OGD and 6 weeks since H.Pylori treatment (even though it was negative on biopsy but my Gastro said it could be sampling error). There is also Intestinal Metaplasia (Pre-Pyloric region) confirmed by biopsy. I am on PPIs but the appetite and digestion is still very poor and I am continuing to lose weight (5% body weight in 2 months). A series of blood tests and CT Abdomen also came in negative. Any advice as to the prognosis and possible differential diagnosis I should pursue, is much appreciated.

For differential diagnosis you need to tell us your symptoms. Intestinal metaplasia is the transformation (metaplasia) of epithelium (usually of the stomach or the esophagus) into a type of epithelium resembling that found in the intestine. In the esophagus, this is called Barrett's esophagus. Chronic inflammation caused by H. pylori infection in the stomach and GERD in the esophagus are seen as the primary instigators of metaplasia and subsequent adenocarcinoma formation. Initially, the transformed epithelium resembles the small intestine lining; in the later stages it resembles the lining of the colon.
