My son is 18 years old. He is suffering from epilepsy by birth. After 9 years to 12 years 3 years course of medicine. When stopped medicine start fits than 12 to 15 years again 3 years course and stop medicine but once again start fit. Now he has been take medicine. Free from fits during medicine. His activities are normal but he is slow learner. He is not going to school. How is develop his activity according to age. He is reading alfabets but not create the words. Write counting till 100. He is shopping from local store alone but does not about money. Can you suggest me anything.

Anti epileptic medication only control and not cure epilepsy, though some suggest they can be stopped after 5 years of fit free period following a certain rule depending on the half life of the medication being taken slowly. Your son seems to have Mental sub normality also. Please meet a Psychiatrist and get him evaluated if not done recently.

Hello, Contact nearby psychiatric centre and get your child examine for intellectual disability. If he has intellectual disability then he needs special education where he can be trained in specific field. Some children do require medication for epilepsy whole life. The important thing here is to be in touch with your practitioner to keep a track on side effects of medication if any.
