A few nights ago, I got up in the middle of the night to go to the washroom, but when I stood up, I felt so dizzy and it felt like the room was spinning, so I just got back in bed. When I got up the next morning, I didn't feel extremely dizzy like I did before, but I felt slightly dizzy and unsteady as I walked around. This continued on and off for two more days, but today I felt pretty normal. Is this something to be concerned about?

Dizziness when getting up from lying down is called postural or orthostatic hypotension. It can occur when the brain receives incorrect information about the body's position in relation to its surroundings and movements.Postural hypotension can be due to dehydration, prolonged bed rest, pregnancy, diabetes, heart problems, burns, excessive heat, large varicose veins and certain neurological disorders. Postural hypotension can even occur in young, otherwise healthy people, and is generally harmless. To prevent dizziness when getting up from lying down, try moving slowly. Before getting up, breathe deeply for a few minutes. If the problem occurs when you get up from sleeping, try lying with the head of your bed slightly elevated.
