Submucous fibrosis is another premalignant condition which causes marbling or whitening of the whole mucosa and leads to decreased mouth opening as it progresses. Supari and tobacco consumption are the most common causes. If mouth opening is good, then probably the Submucous fibrosis is early stage. It is an irreversible condition which has chances of developing oral cancer in about 1-10 % patients. Regular monitoring is advisable with a head and neck surgeon or a surgical oncologist to detect cancer ar an early stage of it develops.
