I am 44 years male. Parents have Diabetes My hips in nov 17 & feb 18 was 5.8 & 6.0 respectively. Monitoring my Fasting & PP post dinner for 2 days. (I'm Having normal food, no smoking and alcohol 2 drinks / week). I Walk 40 min - 3 times a week. Sugar Levels as below: Fasting last 2 days: 110 and 106 PP post dinner last 2 days: 160 and 146 Please advise.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels mentioned (both fasting and PP) are that you are in a showing pre-diabetes state. The other number (5.8 & 6 %) probably refers to HbA1c%. This also is in the pre-diabetes range. This gives a warning signal, that if proper care is not taken you are most likely developing diabetes is next few months. Fortunately in this if one adapts a modified lifestyle, avoids sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and foods made from maida and refrain from smoking and alcohol, plus exercise over 1 hour a day and maintain normal weight, then there is a good chance of preventing development of diabetes. Since you are at a Pre Diabetic stage need to take care of your diet. Avoid curd, products made from maida like bread etc. Sugar, deep fried food and start taking ayurvedic medicines and regular exercise will help control the Blood sugar levels.

Dear Lybrate User, Thanks for your query. Your food should contain at least 1.5 Cups of green or traditional vegetable in two meals. You should concentrate on taking dhals and whole pulses like Channa and Rajma regularly to increase the protein intake in the diet. Use only 15 ml cooking oil per day or half a litre per month. Do you walk at least 5 days a week.
