I am a chain smoker and lately I have started facing difficulty in breathing and heavy panting even in a little walk. I'm also taking medicines for diabetes. Would that be any beneficial to get a pacemaker.

Get the basic corrections done in your life style and go for regular health check up before thinking about pace maker. The criteria for pacemaker would be decided by the doctors who have examined you and done some routine and specific tests. Have patience and plan you daily routine (while avoiding smoking or any other stimulants.)

The description of your health status is frightening. You require to stop smoking at earliest. Complete evaluation including heart and lungs, diabetes and kidney is required. If already done send the reports so that appropriate treatment may be suggested.
