I am a cardiac patient for last 19 years and diabetic, ibs problem and baretts .i am suffering from acute blood sugar in spite of strict diet, I have had 4 stents and crtd implanted. I have all these years tried various insulin but only human mixtard 30/70 is suiting me all others trouble me. I have tab ziten. Now as my hba1c is 9.9 one doctor changed my insulin to ryzodeg. But sugar after one week is fasting 256 and pp 376 always. I used to take lantus in the night .i want to know how to control sugar because this doctor is saying I should not take lantus. Please help.

Hi, I can understand your predicament but it is very important to realise that problem might not be the type of insulin you are taking. For example mixtard insulin is as good as ryzodeg in terms of reducing hba1c. However if you are experiencing low sugars with mixtard which is again impacting your hba1c levels, then ryzodeg does help as it will cause less significant low sugar level, also called hypoglycaemia, when compared to mixtard. Please let me know if you have any problems with kidney because of your diabetes. If not, the there is a possibility your treatment can be altered a bit to get to the control you desire.
