I get cramps in my legs while I am sleeping. It happens regularly. At times, it eases if I change my sleeping position and shift / rotate my feet/ankles. Sometimes, I stand up and walk few steps to ease the cramp. What is it due to and any suggestions - exercise or medicine?

Hi lybrate-user its mainly cause due to Overuse of a muscle, dehydration, muscle strain or simply holding a position for a prolonged period can cause a muscle cramp. 1 avoid dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids. 2. Stretch your muscles. Particularly calf muscles. Light exercise, such as riding a stationary bicycle for a few minutes before bedtime, also may help prevent cramps while you're sleeping. Regards.
