Dear lybrate-user After kidney transplantation immunosuppressant drugs will help prevent rejection and will have to be taken for as many years as the kidney functions or could be 10 years or more on several cases. Without these drugs your transplanted kidney will suffer rejection and failure. Also your old kidneys were not working and hence you underwent a transplant. They will not function again. Had there been a possibility of that then the transplant would not have been required in the first place. I am sure your transplant nephrologist would have explained these things to you on details.
