I have take diabetes medicine once daily if I test hba1c. If my report less than 5.7 can I leave diabetes medicine for whole life?

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Usually when one is controlling diabetes effectively HbA1c% does remain well within the range.(around <6 .5%) However, if it goes much below (<5.7%) means one has exceptional control. This is usually due to medication, diet and exercise all combined. So it is difficult to say whether you have no more diabetes and hence medicines can be completely stopped. What needs to be done is one has to stop all medications for a few days or weeks, then test the blood glucose as well as HbA1c% to confirm whether there is no more diabetes. Or do a OGTT. Thanks.
