Hi, I was treated for genital warts by catheterization on my penis can you tell if I can have sex again without a condom with spreading the virus to my partner or is my sex life over. I know it's caused by hpv will this hpv leave my body or will I be a STD patient for life. I am wart free for last 10 months. Can you please help me. I also want to tell I do suffer from pain even after treatment I have also tested Positive for HSV1 igg HSV 1 igm negative HSV 2 negative. Can you tell me why I get pain in the genital. WILL I be a STD patient for life. I was also told to use acyclovir but later told I don't have herpes. But I get lots of discomfort burning and pain in the genital area. Please help me.

Although mostly [in 90% cases] the immune system of a person clears the HPV in two years but may remain dormant in the body and reappear again if there is weakened immunity of the patient [like the occurrence of diabetes, tuberculosis, thyroid problem, recurrent cold]. PS. The HPV does not go away and may remain present in the cervical cells for years as such regular screening/follow up is recommended. 2. Marriage is no hindrance if one is HPV infected since virus which causes genital warts doesn't cause cancer and/or there is no evidence to support it, however, it is your moral duty to tell your partner about the same and if she is comfortable then make a maximum effort to protect her. Get her an HPV vaccine. Practice safe sex. 3. I usually manage my patient and provide both with external and internal medications/procedures along with stress on maintaining personal hygiene.
