I have done a blood sugar test 15 days back. And the fasting blood sugar was 98 and HBA1C was 6.2. Test was done in pathcare. Then I am so worried and did a test again and now fasting is 84 and post lunch is 141. And I did not done HBA1C now. Is the test appears normal? Please help me out on this.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your test results are in normal limits - for better blood sugar control follow some tips: - have more of fibre containing foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains instead of refined ones, also include a protein food in each of your meals, foods such as beans, pulses, lentils, sprouts, milk & milk products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, buttermilk, cheese, also peas, nuts (have a handful daily) such as almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews - avoid deep fried, processed & junk foods, sugar containing foods, foods containing trans & saturated fats - do regular exercise like brisk walking, jogging, swimming, also do moderate weight lifting for 10-15 min twice a week (for better sugar control) - sleep well for 7-8 hrs at night - check blood sugar regularly (once in three months ).

If you have done these tests for the first time and you are not on any medication and Your HB1C was 6.2 that means you have prediabetes. You don't need to be on any medications. Avoid sugar jeggary in day to day diet ,reduced oil consumption may be 3-4 tsp /day .Try eating more vegetables ,salads sprouts, fruits, milk, curds buttermilk (without cream) in your daily food plannings will help in prevention of diabetes. Regular 30-45 minutes exercise will also help you. Usually HBa1c tests is done once in 3to 4 months. You need to do other routine tests like lipid profile, thyroid function test, cbc-Es/ vit d/S.Ca etc.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels (fasting) are very much normal. However, PP 141 mg and HbA1c% 6.2, show that you may be in a pre-diabetes state. It is a warning signal. What it means is if you take adequate care like avoiding too much of sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made of maida and aerated sweetened drinks, then there will be no reason to worry. Plus there has to be a proper balanced diet. Regular exercise for at least 1 hour a day and keeping normal weight are other aspects to be kept in mind. Thanks.
