Okay, no reason to panic! What your doctor meant was that in Allergies, the disease is in your environment not you. Your immune system has got sensitised to some inhaled allergen. You need to meet an Allergist who will help you identify the offending allergen/s that are causing your problem. Then, if it is an avoidable allergen, the doctor will suggest ways to avoid contact with the allergen. However, if it is unavoidable, you will have to resort to immunotherapy to desensitise to those specific allergen/s. This is a long process that takes 3-5 years. In the meanwhile you will also be prescribed inhaled and intranasal corticosteroids which will gradually reduce the inflammation caused by the allergy to your airways. In addition, certain exercises like Pranayama and Swimming will also help hasten the healing process. So, if you seriously want a solution, get ready for a long drawn out battle with the allergy along with your Allergist. It will take time and you will need to be patient. But ultimately you will win!
