If Root canal has been suggested, then my friend there sure is no alternative to that if you are keen on saving your tooth. If not then you can very well opt for extraction of the tooth. But in my opinion no artificial tooth serves you as good as your natural does. So dnt be hesitant about the procedure, dentistry has evolved so much that you can get away with root canal procedure even in 1 sitting. So trust your doc and allow him to giv the best to you.

Although dental science has advanced too much but still for pain we can only provide patients with two options. First is root canal treatment- it is a procedure through which infection is removed from your tooth and tooth is filled with permanent filling material and supported by crown. By this way of treatment u can save the tooth and use that tooth as normal before for bitting, chewing and all. Second option is obviously extraction of particular tooth. As there are many disadvantage or u can say future problems associated with it. As an example after extraction u need to fill the space created by a bridge to avoid further loosening of adjacent teeth so that tooth structure remain strong for life. If u don't opt for bridge treatment then in future u will face a lot of dental problems. So as we all know bridge is atleast 3 times costlier than crown/ cap so we advice root canal with crown that why most of the advance clinician opt for root canals only. Rest of all totally depends on patients what they want to opt for. But on my personal level root canal is always better than extraction.

Hello Lybrate user, the only alternate option for root canal is extraction that means removal of tooth. Look artificial tooth can never replace the natural one, if you do root canal and the crown any tooth will serve you not less than 10 yrs. Hope this helps.

Hi, There is no any alternate option for Root Canal. If you want to save your tooth then this is a only option or if you don't want to go through this procedure then you may have to extract the tooth and get it replace by a dental crown (cap) or dental implant. But since you are asking this question my advice will be to go for root canal and save your natural tooth as there is no substitute for a natural and healthy tooth. Regards

Only if the root is not infected and only if a pulp horn is exposed you could do a pulpcapping procedure using Calcium hydroxide to protect the pulp by forming reparative dentine that takes 4 weeks after which a permanent filling can be done. But if the root is infected and the root canal is possible that is the only option.

Hi Dhananjay.. you may try homeopathic medicine... It may not be able to save you caried tooth.. but can relieve pain and also checks the further decay in tooth... Also relieves pain better than the allopathic pain killers..
